Since 2012, the FIGO Fistula Surgery Training Initiative has been building the capacities of local fistula surgeons – ‘FIGO Fellows’ – and multidisciplinary teams to provide treatment to women suffering from obstetric fistula in some of the world’s most underserved communities. The World Association of Trainees in Obstetrics & Gynecology (WATOG) is a non-profit organization that represents the first worldwide network of young obstetricians and gynecologists (OB/GYN). It was founded on the 7th of October 2012 under the auspices of the International Federation of Gynecologists and Obstetricians (FIGO) and with the support of major international senior societies (ACOG, SOGC, EEBCOC, COGA, FOGSI and FLASOG). On that day, 51 trainee representatives from 73 countries unanimously supported its founding. By 2020, the number of member countries has grown to 89 countries, representing more than 100.000 OB/GYN trainees worldwide. (watog.org)
